Synopsis

It depicts the daily life of the Parisian cinema school, la Fémis, where a specific Republican ideal applies and entry into which can be summed up as follows: "everyone¡¯s equal, but only the best gets in¡¦" Through the admission process, the hard work all year and the graduation exams, The Graduation establishes a portrait of our relationship to excellency in the Art,showing how a profession chooses its inheritors.

Review

The Graduation is a documentary describing the process of selecting applicants in the French film school, la Fémis without making any adjustments. The judges interview applicants and then in the next of scene, they share their evaluation of him or her. You might be wondering if it is interesting, but it's really fun. Even if the film does not deal with the theme in depths, it immediately interests us. It is interesting that judges who select students are not sure about their own judgment. Which school a person graduated from does not guarantee the quality of the work he or she made. We know it is a fact but pretend that it is not. The documentary is a very good film for those who are in a position to be evaluated. We can recognize that the judges' scales are by no means absolute and they do not have any great standards to evaluate other young people. They may evaluate the applicants with their subjective opinions and impression. After watching the film, you could have doubts about the social systems and learn that the doubt will protect your self-esteem.
