Slogan

The scenes around the world evoke worries. The separation, isolation, and hatred caused by the crisis of public health fundamentally changed people’s environment, daily life, and relationship. The records and prospects of the reality moaning from conflict, violence, and war are the agendas that pierce through the documentary films of 2024. The 16th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival claims that the documentary films need to expand beyond their original function of spreading urgent matters and accusing the unjust reality and to take immediate response and behavior in order to save the devastating world. In this film festival, we seek friendship and solidarity to go against the wars and crimes destroying the love for humanity and encourage restorative intervention to the relationship between human and non-human as well as destroyed nature. This slogan celebrates the action for stopping the animosity and confrontation encroaching the community and the action for sharing, protection, reconciliation, and co-existence.

Symbol

The realistic tone and manner given off by the documentary genre is ultimately based on various stories found in our everyday lives. The new logo started off as a simple quadrilateral shape but was recreated by combining other shapes. This was then all combined into an image that represents the DMZ Docs. The logo also expresses the DMZ Docs' intention of going beyond the seriousness often imagined by many when it comes to documentaries, towards a wider range of audience through its relaxing but intuitive design.

The poster of the 16th International Documentary Film Festival consists of scenes from the screening films. These scenes from the films vividly capture reality and deliver the message of “Action for Friendship and Solidarity” as a slogan for this year’s film festival. The scenes are arranged side by side and mixed with each other to show and emphasize the intention of the film festival naturally. The scenes displayed on a paper also arouse imagination of relationship with each other.

The graphic identity of the film festival is expressed by designing the film festival’s main alphabets, D,M, and Z in the round-form-connected form-sharp and rising form that remind of meanings of three words, friendship-solidarity-action, consisting the slogan.
