Synopsis

The Paris Opera Ballet is one of the world¡¯s great ballet companies. La Danse shows how a ballet company functions from administration, technical support, and classes, to the rehearsal and/or performance of seven ballets. The film is a profile of all aspects of the ballet company, one of France¡¯s principal cultural institutions.

Review

La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet is a documentary that has given me a lot of food for thought. The film opens with a spectacular view of the beautiful theater and depicts the daily practice of the dances who struggle to give it their best every day. In addition, the camera observes the artistic director and staff working backstage as well as everything that goes on in the theater. The film captures the entire process of staging a performance, which reminds me of myself when I was on stage and makes me feel nostalgic at times. Fans of ballet as well as those who are not yet familiar with the world of ballet will be able to enjoy this film. There are frequent and long scenes of the instructors pressing the dancers to polish each and every step to perfection. I find the sincerity of their effort to reach the top level very moving. I hope you all feel their energy too.
