DMZ International Documentary Film Festival Represents Asia

– Gazes at the World Through The Lens of DMZ, the World¡¯s Last National Division

The DMZ bears witness to the pain of war and the meaning of a distant peace yet to be achieved in a world getting reshaped by a new Cold War. As a miraculous land where all living organisms coexist in harmony, the DMZ offers insights into solutions to the climate disasters and crises of the living organisms and the planet, symbolized by COVID-19. The DMZ demonstrates how the ¡°boundary¡± lies at the root of the global crisis that divides ¡°you¡± and ¡°me,¡± leading to inequality, hatred, and discrimination. The DMZ International Documentary Film Festival crosses the boundary to examine global issues and explore solutions.

– Explores Spirit and Essence of Documentary in Our Time

Over the past 100 years, documentaries have fulfilled their mission to reconstruct the real world creatively. As life is getting tough and global crises are intensifying, the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival promises to remain committed to the spirit and essence of documentaries, facts and truth, to faithfully document the world. We also promise to recognize and stand in solidarity with new formal and aesthetic experiments and challenges of global creators to discover and express the true nature of phenomena and subjects.

DMZ Docs Logo

The ¡°realistic¡± image distinctive to the documentary genre is ultimately based on the diverse stories that emerge from everyday life. The new logo is based on a simple square, but evolves its meaning into a graphic symbol representing DMZ Docs by combining various shapes to create new forms. The simple and intuitive logo design also embodies commitment to reaching a wider audience beyond the solemn image of documentary film festivals.

DMZ Docs Trophy

The trophy of the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival was created by sculptor CHUNG Hyun, and it represents barbed wire, symbolizing the DMZ area. A strand of barbed wire winds upward around the two strands of barbed wire, pointing in different directions. The trophy is awarded to the winners of the competition sections.
