Death Metal Grandma follows, 97-year-old Holocaust Survivor, Inge Ginsberg¡¯s journey to break out as a performer of death metal music and as she prepares for an America¡¯s Got Talent Audition. The short documentary interweaves the rich personal history of Inge¡¯s life as she attempts to merge her personal lyrics with the contemporary genre of Deat
We often complain "I wish to do something but my body cannot keep up." Inge Ginsberg, shows the literal meaning of this idiomatic phrase. ¡®Aging¡¯ is always an unfamiliar phenomenon and the 'elderly' are getting more and more invisible in the current era where the average lifespan is 'one hundred years old.' Therefore, an elderly lady rapping to death metal music is bound to become an object of curiosity. Death Metal Grandma is a brief portrait of the life of Inge who transforms herself into a death metal rapper in order to share her poetry with a wider audience. Having appeared on Switzerland's Got Talent, she now decides to go on America¡¯s Got Talent. However, this 13-minute film betrays our snobbish expectations and does not show her perform successfully and receive cheers and applause from the audience. Ironically, it is at this point that the film shines most brilliantly. She states "I am alive and I don't have to do special things to prove that I'm alive.¡¯" No doubt she lives life to the fullest by writing poetry, sharing food with young people and singing together every day.
