Synopsis

"Why can¡¯t we get along with ¡®independent films¡¯?

We have the right to choose our own films. But what we have maybe a limited choice."

Review

This short documentary considers the significance of Pause Cinema, a small cinema located in Chuncheon, and thus reveals the reality of independent films in Korea today. Starting with a definition of an independent film and exploring the question of why only a handful of commercial films occupy so many screens at large multiplex cinemas, the young people in the film come to terms with the present reality and try to justify the need for independent films. As a result, they give us hope for the future of Korean cinema. In that respect, the interviews given by the teenagers in this short documentary will help us maintain hope for the small cinema in Chuncheon. The reality may remain unchanged, but if someone becomes a new regular and cherishes that space, then the future of independent cinema will not be put on pause. [PARK Busik]
