The problem of illegal immigration is not new. Every year, an increasing number of people move from East to West and South to North to find means of survival and pursue their dreams. For immigrants, Europe is the destination at the end of their perilous journey away from war and poverty. However, their hopes are shattered in Barcelona. The camera illuminates the precarious lives of Senegalese youths who survive in the Mediterranean city. They days are fraught with idleness as they loiter about parks, subway stations or temporary shelters. This draws a contrast with distorted and fragmented yet stylish images coupled with rhythmic music. The director paints a twisted portrait of today’s Europe through music and images of urban crowds blending in strangely with the bleak fate of the immigrants. The final beach scene makes us forget briefly that those walking on the path of nomads have been thrown into the modern version of Babylon, characterized by human hunting.
