Purity Beats Everything is about growing up in a thatched silence in an idyllic country neighboring Germany. By following the tale of two Auschwitz survivors who fled to South Africa, the film leads us into a devastating past that leads straight into our future. They talk about their fears during the war and about the incomprehensible horrors of Auschwitz, but they also reflect on their new home country and the new role they were given. Once in South Africa, they became members of the white upper class and they had to live side-by-side with oppressors. This film reflects the director¡¯s own life, who was born soon after the second world war ended and grew up in the thatched farms close to the tall chimneys leading the ashes of the victims towards the Northern European sky during the war. He says, being Scandinavian, Hitler¡¯s favorite race, that his parents did not face the Germans presumably because they were ashamed of their spiritual kinship to Hitler after the chimneys stopped smoking in 1945. Yet ironically, he grew up hearing nothing about the hell resulting from the romantic surge towards ¡°purity¡±. About the film adds the director: ¡°The times were different then and yet the times are still the same. The insanity Adolf Hitler screamed out into the world is still reverberating throughout our present days and echoes have a dangerous tendency to resurrect disguised as the future.¡±
