DMZ-POV was launched in 2019, to open a place for conversations about Asian and Korean documentaries. For its third year, it aims to provide varying programs that will deepen the study on the topography of Asian documentaries and focus on the documentary films in more diverse categories.
The audience will have the opportunity to observe the ignored history of Koreans in Japan, as known as Zainichi, in ¡®Documentary Over Document: Koreans in Japan¡¯. They will also be able to catch a glimpse of the present and the future of Asian documentary, by watching few young Asian filmmakers¡¯ works in ¡®Here, Now, Asia.¡¯ ¡®Traveler as Promeneur¡¯ will let them question the meaning of travelling and moving in this unprecedented time of pandemic. Through these special programs, we invite the audience to not only look back on the history of documentaries, but also imagine the future of them in the coming times that we are going to live in.
¡®Documentary Archive Forum: Archived Future¡¯ will deliver the conversations on the value and importance of video records, while ¡®DMZ DOCS X KOSMA Academic Forum¡¯ and ¡®Joint Forum Program with the Gyeonggi Film Commission¡¯ suggest the way that the documentaries in modern society should walk on.
Joint with ACC Cinemafund founded by Asian Culture Center, the program will put a spotlight on the current status of Asian documentaries and their future by showcasing the works of active documentary filmmakers from varying countries in Asia.

Celebrating their 10th Anniversary, Ozifilm will publish a booklet for the anniversary as a collaborative work with DMZ Docs. They will also look back into the intense history that they went through and create a vision for the future, with the booklet and a special screening of their films.

This year, DMZ Docs plans to hold an international forum that will provide deeper discussions with diverse perspectives. Erased from both histories of the divided motherland and the country they are living in that once colonized the motherland, Koreans in Japan has been documenting their own past and present. This POV program will introduce six films among their documentaries to the audience and will start the discussion on the ways how we could interpret the Koreans in Japan films as Korean films, Japanese films and auto-ethnography films.

DMZ Docs joins with the Gyeonggi Film Student Association - a union of film training focused schools comprised of 9 universities and 4 arts high schools located in Gyeonggido - along with The Korean Society of Media and Arts, in order to present collaborative programs. The projects aim to expand the audience of documentary films to the younger generations and prepare the film industry for a way to grow in the new normal society. There will be a live streaming of the program.

GFSA Student Jury
The jury consisted of 18 university students in film major and 3 arts high school students will decide the winner of this year¡¯s Asian Competition. The selected work will receive the Next Award and a cash prize of KRW 3,000,000.
The opportunity to discuss the meaning of documentary films in the post-media, post-COVID, post-truth generation will be given in the joint forum program provided by DMZ Docs and the Korean Society of Media and Arts. Media professionals will introduce the latest theories in the documentary industry to the audience, providing papers on various issues in the modern society and examining them together. The program will also be available online via live streaming.
