Synopsis

Documentary filmmaker Sun Hobin takes a bold step into the world of investing by launching his own stock-focused YouTube channel. Riding the wave of a post-pandemic bullish market, Hobin, who has enjoyed effortless financial gains, decides to invest in shares of a company called ¡®Sajo Industry¡¯. However, this seemingly lucrative venture unravels a hidden facet of the Korean capital market, exposing Hobin to the shadowy underbelly that exists beneath the surface.

Review

Saving Private Investor exposes the contradictions of the capital market as seen through the eyes of a director who accidentally got into stock investing. Shareholder capitalism, but a winner-take-all game. In a game that absolutely favors the few major shareholders, there seems to be no place for minority shareholders like him. As in his previous film, Myeoneuri – My Son¡¯s Crazy Wife, he provides an entry point to understand this complex and contradictory situation. He appears as both the subject and object of the interview, explaining to his wife and son the conflict between the owners and minority shareholders of a company. This stylistic freedom, which deftly switches between first and third-person tenses, seems to come naturally to the director. But it's also a clever strategy for laughing at the fools of the world.
