Mast-del is an experimental hybrid work about the reality of Iran, where women are not allowed to express their identity. The film records the voice of a woman who recalls a date with her lover in the post-Iranian revolution period when images hinting at sexual contact are censored. The voice speaks about the censoring of contact between bodies based on the contrast of image and sound. The image’s texture and color strengthen the unrealistic impression and show the clashes between forbidden desire, memory, revolution, and film. As a feminist fighting against forced discipline, Maryam Tafakory shows her talented skills in the collage of poems, documentaries, and archive footage.
