Gush is a bizarre film of the year with an explosion of Fox Maxi’s uncontrollable individuality. In this film, Maxi demonstrates what an utterly free-spirited artist can do. Her film is like a circus of video arts, documentaries, experimental films, animations, music videos, television archives, and kaleidoscopes. Her film is also record, play, resistance, and cry. Gush presents a visual and auditory swirl of images with different origins. It also goes beyond ordinary genres and formats, without allowing any expectation or prediction. The title, Gush, has two meanings. Gush can mean a gush of blood or a gush of affection to a beloved. This dichotomy is the point that Maxi’s beautiful abstract tries to depict and the reason why images of brain, blood, heart, cigarette, dog, camera, festival, fashion, driving, and dance are repeated in the film.
