An experimental poetic investigation of one of the world's largest e-waste recycling sites Agbogbloshie as a contact zone of complex global economic, social, power-political, & technological processes.
The
camera turns to a herd of lethargic cattle at a barren wasteland of dump, and
white smoke from a distance seems to swallow the cattle. The film starts with a
depiction of Agbogbloshie in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. Agbogbloshie is
one of the world¡¯s largest electronic waste dumps, and it¡¯s known as a dumping
ground. An acoustic researcher is working on the sounds at Agbogbloshie. The
sound he hears are more like resistance, warning, or scream. The final
destination of electronic waste creates an apocalyptic vision and smoky ruins
are connected to dissonant sound. The Currency - Sensing 1
Agbogbloshie is a part of THE CURRENCY,
a multimedia art research project that tracks down the global circulation of
electronic devices.
