Synopsis
In the collective documentary programme A Sense of Place, six Iranian filmmakers tell stories of places in Iran or in exile. The programme is created by producer Afsun Moshiry in partnership with The Wim Wenders Foundation, and the films have been developed in close collaboration with Wim Wenders and Hella Wenders.

"I want to find a place, fall in love with it, and then want to know more about it, and making a movie is the ideal way to do that." In his master class, Wim Wenders emphasizes the sensitivity to place as something that should be a priority in film-making. A Sense of Place is the result of the master of contemporary German cinema passing on this sense to a group of young documentary makers from Iran. In this project, led by Iranian producer and curator Afsun Moshiry, Wim Wenders acted as an advisor to six young Iranian documentary makers who have produced remarkable work. The directors, who live in Iran, France, and Germany, project their memories, emotions, and identities onto their cities and the people they encounter there. The resulting six shorts encompass a range of positions and voices in thinking about Iran today, from portraits of Iranians whose daily lives are precariously held together by political and economic instability, to questions of identity created by the experience of exile and migration to Europe. Just as the filmmakers make their perspectives and experiences both personal and universal, <i>A Sense of Place</i> invites audiences to develop a sense of their own country and place through this multi-layered, polyphonic portrait of contemporary Iran.
