Synopsis

In the 1990s, Incheon, Korea experienced a period of economic, cultural, and educational growth centered on the area known as Dongincheon. This area became a hub for heavy metal and rock bands, music listening rooms, and concert halls. Over time, these facilities moved to Gwangyo-dong, where numerous Korean heavy metal and rock bands gathered and flourished.

Review

There was a time when Incheon wasn't all about the harbor and factories. There was a time when Inchon was called the ¡®LA of Korea¡¯. This is the story of the 1990s when heavy metal was at its peak in Korea. Directed by Jo Eunsung, who was active in an Inchon-based creative group and made  A Tale of Old Cities about the city's urban renewal, Incheon Metal City offers a rare perspective on the city. Through interviews with critics, curators, musicians, and others who remember Inchon as it was then, as well as well-researched archival footage, the director's respect and affection for the region shines through. It is an example of a local film that prolongs the history of a city and presents a new vision.
