Synopsis

#1. We Are Connected. The effects of humidifier disinfection didn't just affect humans. Our coexisting animals were the first to show signs of distress.

#2. Animals Are Not Things. There is no dog that should be considered fit for consumption.

#3. The Human Mind. In April 2023, a shocking discovery was made in Yangpyeong - 1500 dog carcasses. This disturbing event prompted a collective response, culminating in a memorial service.

Review

The film focuses on the "social disaster" caused by the toxicity of humidifier disinfectants and emphasizes that pets are also victims of the disaster. The film points out that pets would have been sick even before humans recognized them and would have suffered as much as the human victims. The interviews with pet owners show their sense of guilt and affection for their pets. One of the interviewees says that Korean society went through the same type of disaster repeatedly because it tried to "end and erase the disaster" hurriedly. What should people do to prevent the repetition of such a disaster? To break the circle of disaster, the film suggests co–existence with pets and social attitudes toward other kinds. The film expands the theme of co–existence with pets to criticism against edible dogs and dog breeding farms. What is "Human Mind" necessary for a mature culture of co–existence with other kinds? This film claims that the "Human Mind" is the social interest, sympathy, and respect for living organisms that live with human beings. The film also stresses that the "Human Mind" extends to all lives rather than determining how to treat other kinds depending on the ability or qualification of certain kinds. The film also comes with an example of people who feel sympathy when a robot falls over. According to the film, that is because of the "Human Mind", not the emotion of the robot itself.
