Max is a farmer from the Jura Mountains. He lives in a remote farm in a village called La Côte-aux-Fées, literally 'The Hill of Fairies'. It¡¯s winter, time stretches out and opens a window on imagination.
This documentary depicts an old man and his space, time, and sound. Using a fixed camera, it visualizes the change of a space according to the lapse of time and captures the sound of the space. This is why the spectator can wholly concentrate on the firmly framed being. Through proposing the simplicity of the everyday without a concrete narrative or event, the spectators can watch the film while granting meaning to the visualized beings and their lives¡¯ aspect similar to the noise of the everyday. Subtle sounds traversing serenity and bleakness, the sound of wind over hill, the sound of clouds passing by, the sound of the snow falling then piling up, the movement of animals, vacant spaces without human traces, the spacial sense and time of a white-out all bear their own sense of existence, and give an enigmatic impression of the old man and his time and space. Then, comes the beautiful moment. However, just like the chorus in the ending, the time and space of the old man and his rhythm of life are all engraved in a beautiful harmony coexisting.
