We sometimes meet people who think ‘parents of the disabled must be desperate’ or the others who think ‘they are amazing. I wouldn’t be able to do that.’ In those words, there are no people with developmental disabilities themselves. There is only the stance of the non-handicapped; the disabled themselves are not respected for their mind nor life. Wojtek is a film talking about Wojtek’s family by his own voice. Wojtek has Down’s syndrome who loves Star Wars and Power Rangers and wants to be a pilot. He thinks being a pilot or doing something difficult is hard but he keeps looking for what he can do. His father never scolds Wojtek whatever he does, such as collecting pasteboard boxes around the neighborhood, he just spends time with his son. Moreover, the father creates something with those boxes and explains Wojtek to participate in the making. Wojtek thinks it’s boring but believes father’s words ‘enhance your patience, then you can do more’ and finally he faces unforgettable proud moment. Never judge children’s behavior as useless with grown-ups standard, empathize with children’s heart and share their interest, believe in children’s possibility and offer opportunities for their own..
