Tefik from Kosovo is living with his father and traumatized mother in a refugee camp in Denmark. They were harassed. Maybe because they are Roma gypsies then they have fled from Albania. Tefik is now being bullied by other kids at school but he won't tell his dad because he is having enough worries with the mother who is sick. Tefik is very good at riding his bike. It makes his father happy when Tefik makes tricks on his bike.
The last year of 20th century, Kosovo, previously Serbian region, achieved independence through the Albanian-centered Kosovo War which led tens of thousands of refugees to nowhere to return. Gypsy, the most minority group, was harshly discriminated and Tefik, the documentary¡¯s protagonist, is an only son of gypsy family. While Albanians lived in Kosovo, they violently excluded Tefik family. Mother was ill in bed and father became silent. In front of the temporary shelter in Denmark where wounded family sat on, Tefik rides a bicycle. When Tefik falls from acrobatic movement on the bicycle, his father fixes the broken bicycle. Repeated attempts, repeated failures. While fixing Tefik¡¯s bicycle, his father says ¡°Tefik, when you fall, you get back up again.¡± till he gracefully succeeds his acrobatic movement. Tefik dreams of his own figure in the future as a police officer arrest bad people and of his father fixing bicycles in the shop located in Denmark, also mother healthy again. In a calm tone, the film shows a boy¡¯s will to bravely move forward while portraying people get discriminated. People sometimes helplessly fall down. But what is important comes next after the fall. A Tale of Two Mozzies (2007)The Boy Who Wanted to Be a Bear (2003)Circleen-Mice and Romance (2000)Circleen-City Mice (1998)Hans Christian Andersen and The Long Shadow (1997) It is not acceptable for Children to live in refugee camps and it should not be allowed. In the Danish refugee camps there are hundreds of children. Some are only in the camps for a shorter period of time, but a few families have been in the camps for more than 14 years. They are living in stressful and traumatizing conditions and with an unknown future. These films are based on interviews with two girls, Solen and Jamila who are telling their stories about their life in refugee camps in Denmark. Stories that I find important to tell!Tefik from Kosovo is living with his father and traumatized mother in a refugee camp in Denmark. They have fled from Albania because they were harassed or maybe they are Roma gypsies.
