Does a border exist between friendship and love? We Can Call It Love starts with this common question. Even the title is ‘we can call it love.’ The director, however, connects this obvious question with the story the director has always wanted to talk and deliver. It was interviews that make the film even reasonable to be produced. Director’s question on friendship and love and friends in same age group speak out with various answers. What lingers after the screening is their live facial expressions. They look bright, serious, thrilling, and excited. They don’t give predictable answers which you might have heard; they share the experiences of their own or of someone beside them. When they need to make assumptions to answer, there always are he/she they care about. These questions and answers and the noise they make produced this adorable work, anyone want to watch twice. The message of this film is that the standard of the border between friendship and love doesn’t have to be sex and this message exerts its own power when they talk about someone really exists. The emotion between people is not controlled by the norm fixed by other people. Dealing with somewhat sensitive issue around love, the film shows its strength in its questioning in connection with specific person, situation and experience and in exploring answers. [Lee Hye-rin]
