Synopsis

There are many small boxes owned by my mother. I found mom¡¯s private questionnaire that was filled by mom¡¯s high-school friends in mid-80th. The old paper brought me to the unknown time and places that I¡¯ve never experienced. I decide to see mom¡¯s old friends to find how they reached their dream on the paper.

Review

In the opening of the film, the screen is filled with people who are surprised at the letter at first, then burst into smiles. The refreshing smiles as fringe tree¡¯s flowers popping out of its buds make audience wear smile. What is it that makes these women so surprised and then happy? The key to that question is in the box which mother of the director have treasured since her adolescent days.

The treasure box which a 15 year-old girl and 17 year-old-girl cherished for more than 30 years. At first, the son take a look at the box with a halfway flutter and another halfway curiosity, and therein faces girls who have ¡®lots of dreams¡¯ like himself.

The girls who gave answers of doll shop, fashion designer, Song Chang-sik, Cho Yong-pil, etc. for questions of future dream, favorite singer, etc. on the 30-year-old ¡®Q&A¡¯ sheet have grown up to be members of society. The gap in time would not be the whole thing that the mother and her friends, who acknowledge the gap, would face. The gratitude for themselves who have been alright till now, the approval for son¡¯s generation who are in their own youth days as their mother were once, etc. are all intertwined complicatedly. This film would bring smiles on audience¡¯s faces through the precious treasures which they already remember even if the director did not convey the letters to them.

The director does not just give a look at her box, but captures the dreams of his friends and himself on his own way (through camera). I wish this film, one day, would be the precious bridge for the director and his friends, whose (uncertain) dreams alone make them shine,¡¯ as ¡®mom¡¯s shabby box¡¯ does for the mother and her friends. There was very interesting personal questionnaire, which was made 30 years ago. Meeting with the protagonists of the questionnaire takes me to the journey into their childhood dreams and later.
