Grandfather is taking caring of uncle who is middle-aged heavy smoker and schizophrenic in a tiny apartment while grandmother who has got lung cancer due to her son¡¯s smoking moves to her daughter¡¯s place. Grandpa sometimes visits grandma to help her. Grandfather, who is unable to take care of both, has to choose between his wife and his son. The strength of the documentary filming director¡¯s personal life such as family story is to approach the object relatively in a friendly and free atmosphere based on an intimate relations. The director¡¯s camera just watches and follows the tragic situation where his family lives without intense emotion and elaboration. Only popular songs with Spanish vernacular emotional sentiment do give off the tragic pathos, which represent the confusion, angst and split personality grandpa is suffering from. The death and illness the family in this film undergoes are as common as popular songs. As uncle, who is schizophrenic, says we all feel painful because of love. This short documentary film capturing the tragic story of a family with a calm approach impressed audience circulating a number of film festivals including Karlovy Vary International Film Festival where awarded this film as the best short documentary film.
