Synopsis

When watching Cecilia MANGINI¡¯s documentaries, we have the impression that everything we see is supposed to represent the future. A better future, a future in which hypocrisy, exploitation, all of the ugly things that inhabit this world do not exist. Or, at least, a future in which life is a little easier. ¡°Documentaries - she says - are an instrument of hope¡±. This does not mean that her work is plain optimistic, on the contrary: if something needs to be exposed there is no measure, no detail is left out. This said, her main target is the young. Her last (and beautiful) work, La briglia sul collo, is the perfect example: a kind of reportage on a seven-year-old kid who is dysfunctional, to use an ugly term in fashion today. The school wants to help him adjust. Adjust to what kind of society, one may ask? A great point of reference on the matter is, of course, Pier Paolo PASOLINI. He, in fact, contributed to the making of Ignoti alla città and La canta della marane with two long texts. Scorning the institutions is these kids defense mechanism, and the boggy ¡®marane¡¯ their refuge from the world that treats them as outsiders. Tommaso cultivates other dreams: finding a job, buying himself a scooter, living in Brindisi, a city dominated by the molochof the oil chemical plant. (Andrea MENEGHELLI)
