Cecilia MANGINI, Mariangela BARBANENTE
At the age of 85 and 40 years after her last film, Cecilia MANGINI, the first Italian female documentary filmmaker and Mariangela BARBANENTE, a younger colleague and friend, embark on a road trip across Apulia, their native region in Southern Italy, where Cecilia filmed many of her famous works in the 60¡¯s. They want to film how Apulia has changed during the last 50 years, when industrialization started a process of change from the simple, ancestral society to a land of opportunities.
Cecilia MANGINI, Mariangela BARBANENTE
Born in Mola di Bari, she lived and studied in Florence. Soon after her studies were completed she moved to Rome where she kept working as a photographer. First Italian women to shoot documentaries in the postwar years, Cecilia has succeeded in telling the story of Italy from the late 50s to the mid 70s, mostly by concentrating on her birth region, Apulia, to provide visual evidence of the disappearing of the paesant culture of the Salento that was being overwhelmed by the fast industrial shifting dictated by the economic boom.
