Pamela VARELA
In 1936, after the death of the Chilean poet Francisco Contreras, his French wife, Andrea de Alphonse, left for Chile. In El Turco, close to Cartagena, she lived amidst her shimmering collection of agate in utter destitution, nurturing the hope of seeing her husband¡¯s work recognized. Ana, an artist and photographer living in the South of France, decides to make a portrait of Andrea following her footsteps from France to Chile. Throughout this journey, her fate will shift.

Originally from Chile, Pamela VARELA graduated from ESEC in Paris. She¡¯s been assistant director t o Mathieu AMALRIC, Arnaud DESPLECHIN or Lech KOWALSKI on features. She produced ChengChui Kuo¡¯s Séance Familiale(Family Viewing)(2008, 28¡¯), which toured international festivals and won the Audience Prize in ClermontFerrand, the Grand Prix in Brest and was nominated for a César in 2010. She works as a writer, director and producer on documentaries, video installations and fiction shorts.
