Synopsis
Destination North starts off as your typical television tourism ad, but has a lot more to offer. There are postcardlike landscapes, locals praising their lands and a narrator beckoning you to go book a ticket as soon as possible, but this film is actually about mosquitos. Yes, mosquitos, the most common creatures from the area, whose history is at least as interesting as the one of humans. How do they spend their time? And why do they find Finland such a wonderful place to be? All the important facts about Finnish mosquitoes can be found in this film. Kudos for the the misleading use of such a cheezy form, all for a truly well constructed surprise. A guide to the Finnish Archipelago… with a twist.

Eighteen budding documentarists from all corners of Europe ended up in the middle of the Archipelago Sea of Finland, happily squeezed into the hull of a trawler boat with a swarm of thirsty mosquitoes. It is called CineBoat. Young directors would form their international teams to travel across the archipelago, shooting and editing short documentaries about the local people, before returning to the mainland of Turku to showcase their work at a mini film festival in the city. Destination North is made by Gautier Dulion from France, Albina Griniūtė from Lithuania, Melissa Suárez del Real from Spain.
