There are laborers who took the long way round. They spent ever y day doing hard labor on the assembly line where they could hear even the sound of each other breathing. These laborers went up on the roof of the factor y to stop layof fs and had to throw rocks and bolts at each other. They also had to watch as 22 laborers and their families who were pushed over the factor y wall leave on a long, long journey. Then they finally ended up at Daehanmoon (Daehan Gate) in the middle of Seoul. Their small wish to remember those who will never come back was cut down over and over again by the police. But then there were also citizens who came to be their friends. So in 2012, ¡¯Daehanmoon¡¯ became an antipode for those who want change. Video ar tists who stayed at the site also join them. T he result of capturing the demands, authorit y, and beaut y of laborers who refuse to give up hope is Why We Went to the Daehanmoon?. They are now adding new meaning to the histor y of independent video activities as well as the meaning of ¡®Daehanmoon¡¯. The collaboration of the L abor News Production Crew, Color T V activists, Ssangyong Motors laborers, and young documentarians becomes complete at Daehanmoon. Hopefully, the laborers should be able to return to their right ful positions as the directors who are faithful to their job of documenting and demonstrating the practice of solidarit y wish. For that to happen, more people need to go to Daehanmoon to listen to the Ssangyong laborers and this film needs to be promoted and be seen by more people. ¡®Living together¡¯ is not such a dif ficult thing. Documentary filmmakers teamed up with a layoff Ssangyong Motors worker, Lee Hyun-jun, to intimately capture the lives of Ssangyong Motors workers on camera. The team called ¡®I Will Meet You at the Daehanmoon¡¯ works on their long-term projects independently while they collaborate on essential videos portraying on-going struggles.
