Macky ALSTON
Love Free or Die follows a personal story of Bishop Gene Robison, the first gay partnered bishop in the Episcopal Church, as American churches debate whether or not lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people are equal to heterosexuals in the eyes of God while the world debates whether LGBT people are equal to heterosexuals in the eyes of the law. In the film, Bishop Gene steps onto the world stage as he travels from small-town churches to Washington¡¯s Lincoln Memorial to London¡¯s Lambeth Palace calling for all to stand for equality – inspiring bishops, priests and ordinary folk to come out from the shadows and change history. Macky Alston also spends time depicting the Bishop¡¯s family life. Robinson is the father of two grown daughters and the proud grandfather of two granddaughters and lives with his husband, Mark Andrew. The backlash against Gene Robinson has not just been because he is ¡®the gay bishop¡¯ but also because he has shown us through who he is, not just what he says or does, the deeper bonds that unite people as Christians once they no longer let themselves judge others by their sexual orientation. This Bishop can change not just the church, but the world.
