Synopsis

A movie scene repeats the glory of the old days. A girl in the scene is as beautiful as a princess, without worries about her future. But the girl, Anne, is now 56 years old, having grown up spoiled by her father¡¯s near-obsessive love. All she now has are the memories of the bright old days. Now she has to clean her clogged toilet herself, but to her that is not her real life. The only life she finds real and perfect is the wealthy life of the past. Without any career to speak of, she can¡¯t get a real job. Her only comforts are the watches her father left, and some relics that are worth almost nothing. All she can do now is to blame her parents for ruining her life by wasting the money she would have otherwise inherited, and to turn her face from reality and run. But Anne and her mother still live together despite these feelings, as they share the memories and the comfort they provide. They still smile upon those withering memories. Does Anne¡¯s life seem that much more miserable because of her perfect childhood? Is the childhood in her memory exaggerated and sugar-coated so as to make it more glamorous? Life is not always ¡®good¡¯, and this work-ridden, capitalistic life is difficult. And are we not all like Anne, looking back on the ¡®good old days¡¯, living our withering life, shaking our heads in grief? We all have our own memories, stories and promises of days of glory, although they fade away through all the bread-earning and work of today. (KANG Seol-hwa)
