Anne, an 11-year-old, suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome, caused by brain damage. She reacts exaggeratedly to external occurences, and contorts her body unwittingly or wriggles on the spot. The most bewildering symptom is her habit of licking things around her. Anne is afraid her friends might laugh at her or impersonate her, so she tries to keep her tics in check at school, which is unfortunately no easy task for her. Anne just wants to fly high into the sky, where her classmates can’t see her. She has a boyfriend, Delano, whom she wants to get married to. Delano says Anne is “like the sun shining in my eyes.” These two lovers recording a chapter of their lives together make some of the most beautiful moments in this film. Flying Anne is a story of Anne’s growth, as she comes to accept her condition as a part of herself, and to talk about it with courage. Her clear face deeply moves our minds. (KIM Jin-sook)
