Focusing solely on creating a world for humans has led us to forget the countless non-human entities of the natural world, driving the planet toward climate disaster and war. Hatred and discrimination based on race, class, ethnicity, and gender continue to undermine human dignity. Both nature and humanity spend their days in anxiety, facing the precariousness of coexistence and the uncertainty of the future. We may be trapped in a dark, hopeless world where nothing is clear. Imagining the day we want to live—even though it cannot immediately solve humanity’s problems—may at least be the first step toward reflecting on the present and creating a hopeful future we wish to pass on. Documentaries have constantly sung of the beauty and contemplation of humans and society, posing questions about how we meet each day amid this urgent crisis and what kind of social magnetic field we create. What kind of day do we most want to live, what kind of present and future do we hope to build, and what do we dream of?
