Rodrigo RIBEIRO-ANDRADE
Asian premiere
In a dreamlike Afro-Diasporic odyssey, landscapes and alleys meet at the crossroads of time. Solmatalua travels a dizzying itinerary through ancestral and contemporary territories, carrying out a mystical journey that rescue memories and search possible futures.
There is a reversed photograph of a slave ship overcrowded with blacks and the camera moves from bottom to top to create a decalcomania of an upright photograph. The narration further emphasizes this image of a vertical twist: ¡°A black man who was once a king in his own land now became a slave who follows orders. Still, memories of home did not disappear and songs of memory will free the slaves.¡± Solmatalua firmly states that modern history has been reversely built based on blacks from slave ships and that memories of their home and culture will lead to the liberation from reversed history.
