Vienna, 2019 – the end of an era. The smoking ban in public places means that a part of Kaffeehaus culture has disappeared. Of all moments, this is the one that Angeliki chooses to buy an apartment with help from her interior designer friend, Carmen. Angeliki seems to have something against all of them: either the parquet floors creak, the tiles are the wrong colour or she is bothered by the proximity to a restaurant. How will she ever find a new home in this environment?
A Little Love Package is a film inspired by smoking bans in 2019 in Vienna, Australia. To Gastón Solnicki, the smoking bans in an old city seemed like a sign heralding the end of the era. Will Café Weidinger continuing for 4 generations, handmade shoemakers, aged cheeses, and classic music education become outdated heritage? The film takes place in a city where time doesn¡¯t exist or different time zones exist together. The parallel arrays of actors who seemingly act themselves, the exchange of fiction and reality, the dry voice of Mexican author Mario Bellatin as an external narrator, and drawings of children on blackboard sketch multifaceted scenery of a renewing world in the period of transition and bans, rather than composing a clear context. This docu-fiction film combines the plot of the journey from Vienna to Malaga, narratives, and records on every corner of the city, and textures of experimental images. Gastón Solnicki also describes the clash of reality and nostalgia in an impressive way. The classic repertoires, such as Dali, still camera, and dialogue of two shots, also present special inspiration with beautiful composition and perfectly controlled light work.
