Werner HERZOG
Korean Premiere
Werner Herzog sets his sights on yet another mysterious landscape - the human brain - for clues as to why a hunk of tissue can produce profound thoughts and feelings while considering the philosophical, ethical, and social implications of fast-advancing neural technology.
Werner Herzog, one of the foremost masters of modern documentary, is driven by the desire to explore. It drives him to travel into uncharted territory, to make films that ask pointed questions, and his newest destination is the human mind. Theater of Thought documents the frontiers of research into the brain and mind by meeting with leading experts in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and other fields from around the world. The roster ranges from Nobel Prize winners to researchers at leading tech companies like IBM and Apple to performance artists. With his characteristically bold and intelligent insights, Herzog asks questions that cut to the heart of a field that is often relegated to the realm of specialists or shrouded in mystery. Where does our imagination come from, can we control things with our thoughts, and can we communicate with other species? Filled with science fiction imagination and curiosity about the nature of humanity, Herzog's conversations with some of the world's top scientists are serious, witty, and full of reflective moments. Theater of Thought is a most timely exploration in an age of vague hopes and fears about AI.
Werner HERZOG
Born in Munich in 1942, grew up in a remote valley in the Bavarian mountains. Until age 11, he did not even know of the existence of cinema. He started to develop film projects at age 15 and since no one was willing to finance them, he worked the night shift as a welder in a steel factory during high school. Since then, he has written, produced, and directed some 70 films, has published books of prose, staged about a dozen operas, acted in films, and founded his own Rogue Film School.
