The sensation of movement is an illusion that is both a misperception and a mistake, yet it evolves into precise information. Muybridge's device, which emerged as the pinnacle of endeavor in the late 19th century, ushered in an epoch of illusion. Today, anonymous footages that capture instances of mortality have also become illusions.
In the late 1800s, Edward Muybridge and Étienne-Jules Marey developed a machine that captured the continuous movement of active organisms, allowing for precise analysis of their motions. In this context, motion was redefined within the realm of persistent illusions created by sequences of seemingly static entities, shedding light on the nature of cinematic imagery. Movie: Model 2 divides a single screen into two parts: on one side, it replays the aforementioned motion images as illusions, while on the other, it presents fragmented and sequential anonymous photographs capturing moments of death, floating within the realm of digital media. An age-old question resurfaces within the digital visual culture environment: Does cinema conceal death through the illusion of motion?
