The Journey To OKJU depicts the 'traces of the traditional Sori' remained in the area of Jindo County. (OKJU is an old name of Jindo) It is, so to speak, Kim Eung-su' version of ‘In Search of Lost Sori’. The special point in this travelogue is that the trip does not merely end to the nostalgia or regret at dying thing, but heads for the exploration and inquiry about the original position of the art, 'Sori'.

Director Kim Eung-su, as always, has a cinematic interest not in the myth of the past, but in the trace of the present. The 'trace' is not residue of the past culture that does not yet disappeared and remained, rather it could be understood as an unexplored space to investigate for the birth of the authentic art that we are anticipating.

'Sori', art born originally in the culture before life and art were separated, is the most beautiful art when it is performed in the place of the life as well. The Journey To OKJU looks for the place in which Sori is not seen as a cultural asset, but it is recited like Sori (house of mourning, worksite), and captures the Sori of the site. There, Sori has been enjoyed with crossing diverse borders that the modern created (border between labor and art, between scene and auditorium, between performer and spectator) Even when Sori is represented as a part of the local culture event, the film pays attention to the moments in which performer and spectator mingle.
