Review

Spring Wind Project 2: Meet comrades again serves as a follow-up to the 2022 Spring Wind Project: We are here, which documented Father Mun Jeonghyeon's pilgrimage connecting sites of struggle for a better world. Two years on, this new project reassesses our progress towards that vision in light of ongoing global conflicts, heightened geopolitical tensions in the Korean Peninsula and East Asia, the escalating climate crisis, and increasing violence against women and minorities. Comprising 11 short films, this anthology revisits those who persist in their fight for a more equitable and secure society, despite mounting challenges. The project offers a contemporary portrait of Korean society by focusing on labor struggles, environmental issues, and instances of discrimination and hatred. In doing so, it holds up a mirror to ourselves and our communities, using these stark realities as a catalyst for change. This compelling series is part of "POV from the fields," an on-site media production support initiative at the 2024 DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, underlining the festival's commitment to showcasing urgent social issues through documentary filmmaking.
