Synopsis

Natural World: Echo – An Unforgettable Elephant is a kind of homage to Echo, the world’s most famous elephant, who died at the age of 65 in 2009. And the film is also a collective memoir of those who spent their lives with Echo over the past 40 years. This work allows us to get to know this great mother and wise leader and admire the world of animals once again. Two decades ago, the BBC Natural World team met Echo through the zoologist Cynthia Moss, who had been studying the ecology of elephants since the 1970s. Since the first coverage by the BBC, millions of viewers around the world have watched Echo and her group. They learned not only the survival strategy and leadership of elephants, but also their unique love, foresight and wisdom – virtues that people generally do not expect from animals other than humans. The great leader who guided almost 40 family members for half a century is now gone. Echo’s offspring will raise a new generation based on her teachings. And those elephants are not the only ones who remember Echo. To Cynthia and those who shared their lives with her, Echo was a life partner, full of pleasure and wonder. How could one not dedicate a homage to Echo? (KANG Seokpil)
