Synopsis

For the disabled who don’t receive proper care either from their family or from societ y and whose rights are not protected, living in an institution is literally a forced last resor t. Soo -yang is a disabled woman who has been living away from her family in a facilit y for over 20 years. She eventually decides to move out on her own af ter 26 years of living in a facilit y where life is physically suf focating and monotonous and human rights are not respected. Having received a housing fund from the Communit y Chest of Korea, she now has a boy friend and is working as an activist, get ting closer to her dream of ‘having a normal life’. T he film follows the daily lives of an individual woman with a disabilit y to show her specific desires and reads almost like Soo-yang’s diar y rather than taking the stand of an activist that points out the irrationalit y of a facilit y and suppor ts the independence of an intelligent, disabled woman or raging at the uncer tain conditions of life that marginalized people are lef t with. Instead of spit ting out a torrent of emotions, Soo-yang who has undergone a long process or the camera that captures her both ask in a composed manner why a human being’s basic right to simply feel the weather and star t a life with the person they love be such a dif ficult struggle.
