Synopsis

A stage sets the story. Gigantic forms of architecture become the great theme of our day while construction and real estate, inflation and compensation, garden-like parks and a mirage over the ocean, which are all byproducts of capitalism, become the backdrop. Just like ‘the rise and fall of Mahogany City’, a Brecht quote that the director used as reference, the new city of Songdo is the main stage for this movie. The voice of an old man who had once been a fisherman sounds like the preface to the rise and fall of the virtual city of Mahogany. The movement of exploring urban spaces to the brisk rhythm of a tap dancer is considerably chilling. And voices talking over the radio about the financial crisis at the end of the century and the collapse of a new city float through the air. The sculpts the signs of dystopia that accompanies urban development with its unique sensory images. The floating voices and the tap dancing that goes on above the concrete earth transform the entire film into a street performance. Just like a city concerto echoing through an empty space.
