Synopsis

People who live a ‘different’ life from the social standard always explain themselves. They are asked to prove themselves and enlighten about themselves with such questions like why have I reached this far, how do I live, but the world they would be accepted as they are seems to be far away. It happens to the families of Eunice, Jeremiah and Brian, too. These three families emigrated to Korea from Congo as refugees have constantly demanded their idenitity and been demanded, but what they get is endless answers that make them repeat themselves. Three kids never visited Congo, even can’t go there, they were automatically became refugees according to their parents. They were born in Korea, have lived in Korea and use Korean language but they can never obtain Korean citizenship. The administration always answers that they are ‘stateless’, but these kids search for their own world within that status. Regardless of the nation, a great name, ‘living place’ means right now and here like they dreamed of new beginning from the start, although they came to Korea as refugees for different reasons. The director suggests an answer to them with an ordinary family’s life rather than refugees’s life swayed by ideology and politics. Children establish the world in which they build their own dreams, memories and the life together just like the others do. Please Answer Me delivers its hope for a perfrect world beyond the camera in a calm and solid way. (CHOI Min-a)
