Synopsis

Nana, Jouie, Ppek works at a fair trade travel agency °∞Travelersmap, a social enterprise, and wants to do something fun than to work overtime. At first glance, the start of looks like nothing more than a group of corporate-life-tired-lady겝s casual gabfest, but it is more than just a simple social gatherings of individuals. The ladies are grounded and know where they stand and that our lives are connected stitch by stitch to the world. The Knitting Club goes through many activities. The ladies plan a colorful urban terror to wake up the expressionless city’s morning. They start a Miryang Power transmission tower support project called “765 project.” They would go and help the Miryang residents with farming and visit the Gwanghwmun Sewol victims sit-in-site. Meanwhile Nana contemplates the working condition in an organizational culture of a social enterprise and tries to create a union. The Knitting Club unfolds two stories: first is the story of Nana and her coworkers creating a union. The second story is the communal meetings that envision daily social solidarity. At first glance these two stories look like they have nothing in common but as each story stitches into the other it forms unified shape. The questions woven in the story exposes obscured unethical organizational system in the ethical production. It reveals personal sacrifices due to organizational development being prioritized. These questions apply to social enterprises and alternative-lifestyle-seeking-activists and more. Nana quits her work and Jouie and Ppek goes on a trip creating a knot in their journey. However some question still remains to those who watch the movie. To create a better world and to pursue a happier life what should we do? How should we create relationships with people? And how should we exchange the essence that can sustain life? After watching the movie it urges me to meet those with a strong feminine voice who went through the same path to answer the same question. (PARK Hye-mi)
