CALL FOR Asian Documentary Projects for DMZ Docs Fund

The DMZ International Documentary Film Festival has supported Korean and Asian documentary productions since its first edition in 2009. This year’s DMZ Docs Fund is also open to Asian documentary projects with public presentations and networking opportunities during the upcoming 10th DMZ Docs in September. Applications for the 2018 edition open from May 18 to June 1, 2018.

  • The main subject must be related to a demilitarized zone(DMZ) with a theme of peace, communication and life.

New Directors’ Project
  • Feature or short length documentary projects
  • Director must have directed fewer than 1 feature length documentary.
  • Project which contains Asian elements in terms of story, theme, character and set-up.
5 projects Cash Grant of KRW 10,000,000

(approx.USD 10,000) per project

※ The number of supports and the size of the grant can be changed according to judges’ decision.

    • 1) Application Form
      – Project information, Personal details, Biography and filmography of the director and producer etc.
      – Director’s previous work, Trailer or visual references, No more than 10mins of rough cut of work in progress if applicable

      – The proposal can include characters, treatment, or research materials etc. which are not included in the 1) Application Form.

  • All submission materials must be in English.
  • Submission materials will not be returned.
  • Any audio-visual materials not in English must contain English subtitles.
  • Applications that do not satisfy the listed criteria for eligibility or meet stated requirements may be excluded from the process without prior notice.
  • All notifications will be made exclusively through e-mail. Therefore, please make sure that your e-mail address is correct.


After Selection

  • Pre-selection announcements will be made in mid-July. Once pre-selected, at least one representative of the project (director or producer) must attend the networking workshop and public presentation during the 10th DMZ Docs. The fund grantees will be announced on September 20, 2018.
  • The Fund will be provided by November after signing a fund agreement.
  • The production must be completed and submitted to DMZ Docs by August 2019.
  • In principle, grantee projects will be released in a world premiere at the 11th DMZ Docs in 2019.
  • The DMZ Docs logo provided by DMZ Docs must be inserted at the beginning of the completed film.
