This year’s Asian Competition selected a total of 9 films, including one short film and 8 feature films, out of 161 films submitted from 32 countries. The selected films consider the contemporary issues about politics, history, gender minority, development and disability in connection with the regional issues in Asia. Their regional themes reveal the special situations of each country, but also they show the power moving us to empathize with their respective issues in relation to the punishment of US military crime, the candlelight revolution, anti-sexual minorities, and feminist movement in Korea. Most of them make known the possibility and necessity of solidarity and communication with the world.
